The objective was to investigate and describe how the phenomenon of decision-making in the career-retirement transition has been analyzed in the national and international scientific literature, under a qualitative approach. The survey was carried out across five academic portals: Google Scholar, Oxford Academic, Scielo, Pepsic, and Portal BVS, with the keywords: "decision making", "career planning", "retirement" and "older workers" also in Spanish and Portuguese, combined two by two. Eight thousand one hundred and ninety-eight articles emerged, which met pre-established inclusion criteria. After applying the exclusion criteria, 19 articles remained, most of which were cross-sectional, followed by longitudinal, and exploratory. Of these, 16 were in the last ten years, demonstrating the relevance of the topic today. Most had participants in the retirement stage, assessing the understanding that these workers had in relation to decision-making and identifying the factors that influence this period. As a limitation, it was analyzed specifically under the psychological bias, excluding other areas of knowledge. The need for future qualitative longitudinal studies on this topic and this profile of professionals is highlighted.
