The present research was developed with the aim to optimize the forestry activity, maximizing the yield and quality of the Pinus caribaea var caribaea Barret and Golfari plantations at the Forestry unit of San Juan and Martinez, Pinar del Río. To determine the stand that should receive the silvicultural treatment, was formulated a linear programming model with two constraints: the budget and fuel availability. Was used the Forest Ordination Project to achieve the problem solution. It contains the area information as well as the information about the economic resources. Additionally, the PLANINF software, serving as an automatic interface among the database, the software used to solve the problem, the production plans and the model parameters. The model allows to obtaining efficient solutions from the economic point of view and to identifying orderly which stand must receive the thinning, the type and the order in which it should be made. Also, the amount of resources needed to obtain the desired performance at the shift end is shown.
