The friction-induced noise of a wiper-windshield system directly affects the interior sound quality of a vehicle. The paper summarizes the theoretical and experimental researches on the friction-induced wiper-windshield noise in the past decades. The previous studies concerning dynamic modeling and numerical simulation of wiper system, generation mechanism of frictional noise, adhesion characteristics of contact surface, and optimization of friction noise are reviewed. It is found that the wiper-windshield friction noise involves interdisciplinary theories and methods, such as dynamics, tribology, psychoacoustics, surface engineering, multi-objective optimization and active noise control, etc. A compromise among the dynamic characteristics of wiper-windshield system, textures of contact surface and frictional behavior of wiper blade for reducing the frictional noise is still a problem that needs to be solved in the future.
