This study was conducted in the school "Bolivia Benítez", Machala, Ecuador with the objective of identifying the cultural factors that affect the educational process, as well as the academic performance of students. The methodological strategy was based on general research methods: documentary review, scientific observation, analytical-synthetic and statistical. Among the most frequent cultural problems are bullying, rejection due to cultural reasons and intercultural illiteracy. Among the factors that affect the educational process and academic achievement are: the withdrawal and isolation of students subject to discrimination for ethnic reasons, not using the original languages in the teaching-learning process, marginal socio-cultural environments, schooling parents, programs and methodologies that do not respond to the intercultural nature of teaching, factors that influence the academic performance of indigenous and Afro-Ecuadorian students.
