Aram is the first of the four ethical virtues in Tamil society. The virtues are namely Aram, Porul, Inbam and Veeduperu. Our ancestors have made Aram a priority because Aram thrives in this world and if a man becomes honourable, Porul and Inbum will automatically come to Veeduperu. Perasiriyar Subbu Reddiar explains that Aram transcends the sensual pleasures of life and wealth, which can be equated to God. According to Perasiriyar, good deeds and good thoughts are all considered Aram. Perasiriyar stands in the way of Valluvar, he explains that those who attain the highest state of eliminating their births and deaths by dependence on the Lord are the ones who stand on the path of the Lord, both in terms of thought, rationality and virtue. That is in the essence of belonging without showing any difference to other earthly beings. The one who owns it is Anthanar. Also, Perasiriyar emphasises Aram through Valluvar’s way and insists that an unvirtuous person who is selfish cannot become Anthanar. Perasiriyar's explanation for each Kural in the Aran Valiyuruthal Athikaram comes with thought-provoking and insightful ideas that are to be entrenched in our hearts. Perasiriyar also explains that the pleasures that can come from Aram are true. It is the only way to live a virtuous life. It is the way to work for the good of others and to live a virtuous life through the examples of Valluvar. Perasiriyar describes the banana tree as an example of Aram and explains the nature of Aram and its significance such as gratitude, charity, humbleness, respect and obedience towards elders in a clear manner. The purpose of this research article is to analyse how Perasiriyar has explored and explained the general principles that are acceptable to all, such as Valluvam.
