Relations between health and illness in discursive spatialities of trans women and transvestites in Ponta Grossa, Paraná, Brazil

Abstract

This article analyzes how the relationships between health and disease occur in the discursive spatialities of transvesties and trans women living in Ponta Grossa, Paraná, Brazil. As they are socially vulnerable in space living, it interferes with their health. A semi-structured interview was applied to the seven people who self-identify as transvestites and trans women. In the analysis of the data was used the speech content analysis methodology, producing a semantic network consisting of 39 discursive categories in 27 discursive spatialities. The results show that many transvestites and trans women are mistreated in school spaces, formal health spaces, and public spaces. They are also afraid of being raped and feel depressed. The results indicate he need for health professionals to perform continuous training for caring this population.
