Background. One of the most important criteria for the social well-being of society, including the level of its social development, is the state of health of various sociodemographic strata of the population. In this regard, the study of the problem of social wellbeing of citizens is the most important aspect of the formation of the social policy of the state. In this case, it can be argued that in order to preserve and develop human potential, it is first of all necessary to achieve positive results in the field of social health of citizens, their healthy lifestyle. At the same time, without realizing the fact that health depends on the specific environment in which a person lives, it is impossible to determine and evaluate it. In addition, despite the increased interest in this problem, there are no clear characteristics of the social conditions for maintaining health, their place in the system of basic sociocultural values. The purpose of the study is to establish a relationship between indicators of the social health of the population and positive effects in the development of the Arctic regions of the Russian Federation. Materials and methods. In the course of the study, qualitative and quantitative sociological tools were used to obtain the necessary empirical information. Based on the author’s questionnaires and a representative sample, mass surveys were conducted of various social groups of northerners, including permanent residents and shift personnel stationed in the circumpolar regions of companies, representatives of different types of settlements, different ethnic groups and gender and age categories. In addition to the actual sociological, interdisciplinary research tools were also used: analysis of statistical and medical-statistical, planned and reporting information, economic and sociogeographical analysis, etc. Results. Based on a theoretical analysis and empirical verification of the data obtained, a generalized list of indicators for a qualitative assessment of the social health of the population of the Russian Arctic, their relationship with the progressive dynamics of the socio-economic development of the region is proposed. Conclusions. Scientific knowledge about the nature of changes in social health in a strategically important region of Russia contributes to overcoming disproportions, opens up the possibility of extrapolating the findings into the practice of innovative transformations of the Arctic spaces.
