The paper analyzes the present challenges and the perspectives of the Law 11738/2008, which established the Teachers National Minimum Wage (PSPN) as a public policy aimed to the appreciation of public K-12 education teachers. The data show that Brazil has, along its history, faced difficulties to implement public policies, followed by the necessary financial injection, to improve the remuneration of public teachers. This is why several implications for the teachers’ professional situation and the quality of the public education have existed. The professional appreciation policy by means of the minimum wage has developed in a context of insufficient financial resources and results in the infringement of the mentioned law by state and municipal managers.
