Thor oughly, this article looks over the catholic church’s role in women education in the frame work of reforms which took place in Colombia in the middle of the 19th century, showing, in deed, how the project of national secularization was quite weak. Fur ther more, it analyzes the State-Church connections and conditions under which this institution acted inside the system of public instruction and the fugacity of Civil Marriage Law
