Symposium Report

Abstract

In July 2022, H-Empire held a symposium to explore topics related to enduring consequences of colonial capitalism in the contemporary Caribbean. Race, Class and Nationalism ‘after Empire’: The Fundamentals of the Caribbean Situation was organized by Scott Timcke and Shelene Gomes while additional support was provided by CLACSO’s Crisis, Respuestas y Alternativas en el Gran Caribe working group and the Lloyd Best Institute of The Caribbean. In this panel, the authors of this introduction acted as moderators. The goal of the symposium was to amplify Caribbean-based researchers currently writing various aspects of colonial capitalism. The writings from the panellists are collected in this special section of New Proposals.
