The essay retraces the biographical events of the sculptor Giulio Cartarè, last pupil of Gian Lorenzo Bernini. In addition to tracking down the artist’s baptism act on March 27, 1642, thanks to several unpublished archival resources it was possible to ascertain the French origin of his family, present in Rome since 1610 with his grandfather Nicolas. Through the examination of parish registers of St. Andrea delle Fratte, it was possible to clarify the dynamics of first contacts between Giulio Cartarè and Bernini’s workshop.
