The present study aims to evaluate the anxious and depressive symptomatology among adults in-patients andidentify possible associated socio-demographical and clinical factors. It is a documental, descriptive, retrospectiveand quanti-qualitative study. The sample involved 100 in-patients submitted to the screening evaluation executed asa routine by the Psychology Service from a philanthropic hospital, which involves the application of the HospitalAnxiety and Depression Scale. Of the patients under study, was verified that 46% presented relevant clinicalsymptoms of anxiety and 37% presented relevant clinical symptoms of depression. Higher levels of anxiety anddepression occurred on female patients, aged between 71 and 80 years old, divorced, assisted by gynaecologists andobstetricians, and under hospital internment during a period of 8 to 21 days. Those results supply elements for theimprovement of the individual psychological consultation offered as routine in the hospital. In that sense, groupinterventions were proposed, standing out the homogeneous supportive groups.
