AIM: To investigate the surgical approaches of immediate eyelid reconstruction after the operation of malignant tumors of eyelids, and evaluate the clinical effect. METHODS: From January 2010 to October 2011, 11 cases of malignant tumor of eyelid underwent the eyelid reconstruction with local or free flap grafting and hard palate mucosa autotransplantation. Of 11 cases, there were 3 males and 8 females, aging from 38 to 77 years. The defect was caused by basal cell carcinoma of eyelid in 6 cases, by carcinoma of meibomian glands in 4 cases and by squamous cell carcinoma of eyelid in 1 case, including 4 cases of complete eyelid defect and 7 cases of 1/2-2/3 eyelid defect. RESULTS: The appearance and function of the eyelid in all cases were satisfactory. No tumor recurrence was observed in all cases during the follow up period of 6 to 24 months. CONCLUSION: The eyelid reconstruction with local or free flap grafting and hard palate mucosa autotransplantation is an easy and effective method after resection of malignant eyelid tumors.
