The separation of mixtures of rare earth elements (REE) is difficult to perform due to the similarities of their chemical and physical properties. Literature report the particular property in Ce ion oxidize in contact with strong oxidizing agents and thus enable their separation from other REE. This paper presents results of bench tests in order to investigate operational parameters for precipitation of Ce ion from a rare earths chloride liquor. It was tested oxidants/ precipitating as the pair permanganate/carbonate and peroxide/urea to Ce ion selective precipitation. It was investigated in both cases, the variables reaction temperature, time and pH. The results show that the two pairs analyzed show to be effective in the precipitation of the Ce ion, however, there is higher selectivity for the pair permanganate/carbonate.
