Contiguità, interclassismi e rotture rivoluzionarie nella Sicilia borbonica. Realtà e rappresentazione di un incerto sodalizio tra opposizione politica ed elementi criminali
Abstract
The legal abolition of the feudal system (1812) produced important changes in the structure of Sicilian society. In particular, the essay analyzes the effects of the process of the democratization of violence, consisting in the management of latifundia through the use of private militias, composed of men belonging to criminal networks which progressively acquire greater autonomy. These forces intervened massively during the Risorgimento uprisings (1820, 1848, 1860), but the ambiguous interclassist agreement between organized crime and the political opposition was difficult to manage for the notables at the head of the revolutionary institutions.
