Abstract

Abdessalam Yassine was born in Marrakech on 18 September 1928. He worked as a teacher and then as a senior civil servant in the Moroccan Ministry of Education until his retirement in 1987. A polyglot with a passion for foreign cultures and music, he was a leading opposition figure to the Moroccan monarch until his death on 13 December 2012.
