“Il mondo senza maschera”. Antonio Muscettola fra Dante e Quevedo
Abstract
This essay focuses on the strategies of quotations used by Neapolitan Antonio Muscettola in his unpublished poem Il mondo senza maschera, a pitiless parody of the viceroyal court and the Neapolitan society in the second half of the seventeenth century. Quotations amplify Muscettola’s polemic against the social dissimulations of the time. Particularly significant, in this sense, is the use of Dante’s "Divina Commedia" and Francisco de Quevedo’s "Sueños".
