A sample of 35 hunting management plans yielded as final academic works in Forest Engineering degrees in the University of Santiago de Compostela were analysed. The main contents and structure of this type of documents (with emphasis in legal requirements about plan performance in Galicia) were exposed. The most common lacks in hunting management plans were those related to the description of the environment and the evaluation of the wild game resources to be managed (excessive or scarce descriptions, incoherent contents, poor bibliographic searching and ignorance about socioeconomic situation). The quality of the hunting projects as regards the exposition of aims and objectives is also analysed. It is detected an important disconnection between the situation described about the hunting site to be managed and the improvements proposed to manage the use of the territory for hunting. The formal deficiencies in the sampled works are also included. Therefore, it is necessary to reinforce the qualification of the students in the above mentioned topics to improve the quality and utility of the projects. The objective of this article is to serve as a guide for students that face for the first time the writing of a hunting management plan and also tries to orient professors that lead and evaluate this type of projects.
