Rheumatoid Arthritis and Collagen Vascular In inflammatory disease symptoms, inflammatory markers are different in the presence of respiratory system symptoms
Abstract
INTRODUCTION[|]The symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and collagen vascular disease are a diverse range of cough to acute respiratory failure. This study was evaluated to whether there was any difference of serum inflammatory biomarkers in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and collagen vascular disease (CVD) with pulmonary symptoms.[¤]METHODS[|]A retrospective, observational cross-sectional study was conducted in the chest training center in between January 2016 to December 2017. RA and CVD were recruited from hospital data. Patients' characteristics, symptoms and co-morbid diseases, hemogram values, Neutrophil lymphocyte ratio, platelet lymphocyte ratio, platelet mean platelet volume ratio, C-reactive protein and erythrocyte sedimentation rate and biochemical values were recorded.[¤]RESULTS[|]130 (Male, 23%) patients with median age 54 (43-63) were included. Gender distribution was similar in the groups. RA were older than CVD (57 vs 49 years, p <0.002). In RA, more patients had respiratory symptoms than CVD (16.7% vs 34.2%, p <0.026). Hemogram values were similar except for the eosinophilia. In RA, the eosinophil count was 2.0% while in CVD was 1.4% (p <0.026).[¤]DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION[|] Inflammatory biomarkers may not differ when respiratory symptoms are present in RA and CVD, although RA may be older and have more respiratory symptoms than CVD.
