Cavailles’ epistemology is known for a rough critique of the notions of conscience and subject. This critique does not aim at dismissing the notion of conscience from philosophy but only to relieve it of its role of primitive notion. From then on, one has to account for conscience. We sustain that conscience is defined and made from reflexivity and the mathematical evolution. To establish this point, we discuss a few texts. We are led to distinguish two problems : that of the 1938 theories, which remains influenced by Brunschvig’s philosophy, and that of the posthumous writings.
