Analysis of the frequency of cardiovascular diseases in patients with senile asthenia syndrome against the background of a new coronavirus infection COVID-19
Abstract
Background. Senile asthenia is characterized by a decrease in the function and reserve of the physiological systems of the body, including the cardiovascular system. Senile asthenia is considered as a process of accelerated aging with a cumulative manifestation of age-related disorders in many physiological systems that predispose to adverse outcomes. Cardiovascular pathology is one of the main comorbidities observed in COVID-19. The aim of the study is to assess the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases in patients with senile asthenia syndrome against the background of a new coronavirus infection. Materials and methods. The study included 54 patients who were hospitalized at the covid hospital in Penza. In the course of the study, laboratory and instrumental indicators were analyzed. All patients underwent assessment of SA using the index of senile asthenia. Results. When analyzing the data obtained when calculating the index of senile asthenia, 61.1% (n=33) of patients suffered from SA. Among concomitant comorbid conditions, arterial hypertension was detected in 78.8%, dyslipidemia was 54.5%, diabetes mellitus in 21.2%, atrial fibrillation in 12.1% of patients. Heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (LV EF 50%) determined in 13 patients (56.5%). Ischemic heart disease in this category of patients occurred in 10.4% of cases. Conclusions. Major cardiovascular and metabolic comorbidities such as hypertension, coronary heart disease, atrial fibrillation, and diabetes mellitus contribute to a poor prognosis in patients with frailty due to COVID-19. All patients require careful hemodynamic and electrocardiographic monitoring.
