Neuroimaging in Epilepsy
Abstract
This review covers the current approach to neuroimaging in epilepsy. Some conceptual considerations for the interpretation of neuroimaging findings are also discussed. An algorithm for neuroimaging in the presurgical evaluation of epilepsy patients is presented, and recommendations are given for specific magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) protocols. The typical findings on MRI, including functional MRI, MR spectroscopy, and diffusion tensor imaging, in the epilepsies are reviewed. The clinical use of functional imaging methods such as positron-emission tomography and single photon emission computed tomography is summarized, including current developments of image post-processing.
