REVIEW OF THE MONOGRAPH V. B. BEZGIN ''MUCHKAYA TRUTH. COMMON LAW AND THE COURT OF THE RUSSIAN PEASANTS''
Abstract
In a review of the results of the analysis carried out and the characteristic of the content of the monograph devoted to the history of the customary law of Russian peasants in the period of post-reform Russia. The source base of the monograph is characterized, the degree of scientific knowledge of the topic presented by the author is revealed. The monograph by V. B. Bezgin depicts the legal life and legal behavior of peasants, the influence of customary law on the daily life of a rural community. V.B. Bezgin convincingly argued that the "great reforms" and the processes of modernization in Russia significantly changed the legal consciousness and legal behavior of Russian peasants in the late Empire, both in positive and negative ways. The author notes that the Russian peasant community at the turn of the century was moving towards official and normative law, departing from traditional values and customary legal norms. At the same time, the author proved the viability of customary law in the peasant environment, the commitment to the "peasant truth" of the Russian peasants of the late Empire period. Monograph of V. B. Bezgin is written at the intersection of a number of sciences: historical, legal and ethnographic, which allowed us to study the customary law of Russian peasants as a phenomenon of national culture.
