Geografias gays do Rio Grande do Sul
Abstract
In this article we seek to present that the gays, despite being historically invisibilized, pathologized and/or criminalized, are important agents in the production of geographical space. After a brief historicity about the homosexual issue in the West and the state of the art of the discussion of this subject in Geography, we seek to synthesize the data available on this population in Brazilian in Health System and in Demography. With the use of maps, we discuss how the urban-metropolitan fact is important for understanding the gay reality of Rio Grande do Sul state and we provoke the need to bring up, in Geography, the debate about LGBT, removing these groups from invisibility and the need to forge new interpretations about the production of space and urban-metropolitan dynamics, highlighting the need to expand data collection in existing information systems.
