French teacher, then trainer in France and abroad, University professor and researcher in Language Sciences, the author presents how, according to her, the sociodidactic approach (SD) was built, along an editorial process that she wants both biographical and exemplified. After recalling the stages of her founding experience, which is the connection between sociolinguistic and didactic of languages, she will define what can characterize SD research, both conceptually and methodologically, and the challenges that both disciplines are trying to address, using a few special cases that she has collected from around the world - especially in Algeria, where she has worked a lot.
