De positie van beëdigde tolken en vertalers in Tsjechië en in Nederland en een casusonderzoek naar tolken in een interlandelijke adoptieprocedure
Abstract
In this contribution we will pay close attention to the position of sworn translators and interpreters in the Czech Republic and the Netherlands. Among other, we focus on their legal position, i.e. the legislation governing the profession and the associated rights and obligations. Also several professional organizations, which unite and represent sworn translators, will be discussed. Besides outlining the theoretical framework we try to mediate a look at the practice of practicing this profession. This latter, we concretely illustrate on basis of a case study in the area of interpreting / translating in intercountry adoption procedures. Here also some ethical issues and the conduct of a sworn interpreter / translator, are addressed. The purpose of this case study is to analyze what makes the translation / interpreting in an adoption procedure specific and how it works out in practice.
