La crise financière et la responsabilité des économistes
Abstract
The financial crisis has challenged the economists, who have been deemed guilty of failing to foresee the crisis. This article examines the sources of the disaster myopia of that profession, both for theoretical reasons (the constraints imposed by modeling, the ignorance of Keynes’ lessons, the shelving of heterodoxy) and in response to the simplistic ways in which economic expertise is presented publicly. This requires both a renewed research agenda and new ethical requirements in the way economists speak and make their research public.
