Object and purpose of research. This study is intended to update risk assessment methodology for marine operations applying the criteria of sufficient safety. Offshore marine operations are unique, so it becomes necessary to develop a special approach to safety criteria assessment that would consider specifics and conditions of these operations. Materials and methods. The paper investigates safety criteria for the risk analysis of marine operations. It describes the ways of their assessment in calculation of individual and social risks, as well as of a number of other risk parameters. Main results. The approach suggested in this paper gives an idea of an efficient risk management methodology in development of marine operation plans. Consideration of different sufficient-safety criteria based on risk parameters makes marine operation plans safer, as well as makes it possible to find the most efficient and the safest variant of their performance, which is especially relevant for Arctic seas with their hard climate, hydrography and ice conditions.
