CLOTHING in N. KARAMZIN’s WORKS AS A SIGN OF HISTORICAL TIME AND NATIONAL CHARACTER

Abstract

The article presents the idea that N. Karamzin in the “History of the Russian state” and in his other writings puts a thing, in particular, clothing of a person in direct connection with an idea. He describes in detail the style and individual elements of the clothes of historical figures and characters of his works, drawing a connection between appearance and the internal state of an individual. For Karamzin clothing is a reflection of the historical time, the social status of a person, it is connected with his national-cultural identity and becomes a sign of relationship to the spiritual world, a sign of personal viability of its owner.
