THE REFLECTION OF A FRAGMENT OF RUSSIAN LANGUAGE PICTURE OF THE WORLD ‘CLOTHING’ IN THE CATEGORIES OF HOUSEHOLD IN N. LESKOV’S NOVEL “THE LIFE OF A PEASANT WOMAN”

The aim of the work - to trace how such a fragment of the Russian linguistic picture of the world as ‘clothes’ is reflected in the everyday nominations of the story by N. Leskov. Methodology. Vocabulary of life is studied, naming types of clothing, which was revealed by the method of targeted sampling in the story of N. S. Leskov’s “Life of a Woman”, where a wide range of life problems of various social strata of Russia of the XIX century, above all the peasants, are touched upon. Classification, analysis of semantics of units with their nominative and evaluative potential with the help of historical, etymological dictionaries are relevant in assessing realistic authenticity of recreated pictures of life, necessary for understanding the stylistic role of nominations in displaying everyday life and traditions, are interesting in linguocultural terms. Results. Observation of the use of clothes’ names by a realist writer confirms the validity of the statement that things and clothes are important in revealing the images of characters: this fragment of the Russian language picture of the world is anthropocentric. Research implications. This leads to the practical significance of the article: observations can contribute to the understanding of the objects of the artistic space by foreign readers, including Chinese, used to clarify translations and create a language commentary to the text. The theoretical value is in deepening the idea of the author’s idiolect and his evolution.
