AN AMERICAN-LED STRUGGLE AGAINST “THE ISLAMIC STATE”

Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of one of the most pressing problems of the international agenda – countering the organization “Islamic State” (IG), banned in Russia. The article analyzes the actions of the international coalition led by the USA to counteract the IG beginning from 2014 up to the present time and to evaluate the effectiveness of the operation. The main methods used in the study are the collection of facts from various sources and literature in order to establish the objective patterns of development of cooperation between countries in this area, their generalization and analysis. As a result, it was revealed that it is difficult to give an unambiguous assessment to the coalition’s actions. On the one hand, the area of the IG controlled territory in Iraq, the funding sources of the group have decreased, some leaders have been destroyed. On the other hand, the coalition acts in the Syrian direction not so successful.
