In this article, we explore the possibilities and limitations of a cultural citizenship develope by young fans and audiences of celebrities. Based on a research with about 50 young people aged 12 to 17 in Portugal, from different social origins, including a group of young celebrities’ fans, we discuss in what ways do informal and everyday practices developed around celebrities allow them to build important capacities for citizenship, understood in a broad sense, as cultural citizenship, to use the concept of Peter Dahlgren and others. Areas such as copyright and privacy, the dimension of individualism and cosmopolitism involved in celebrity culture are discussed here under that frame.
