Walnut kernel against liver damage induced by salt processed Psoraleae Fructus through regulating bile acid metabolism in ovariectomized rats
Abstract
Walnut kernel (WK) is a globally popular health food known for its potent antioxidant properties. WK shows a promising prospect in protecting against liver damage induced by salt processed psoraleae fructus (SPF). This study explored the impact of WK in mitigating liver damage induced by SPF in an ovariectomized (OVX) rat model. Serum metabolomics was employed to explore potential detoxification mechanisms. The levels of Farnesoid X receptor (FXR), Bile salt export pump (BSEP), and Cholesterol 7α-hydroxylase (CYP7A1) proteins were determined through western blot analysis. The results demonstrated that WK exhibits a noteworthy protective effect against liver damage induced by SPF. The WK normalized the metabolic disorder and reversed sixteen liver injury biomarkers and five metabolic pathways induced by SPF. These results demonstrated that WK exhibits a protective effect against SPF-induced liver damage in OVX rats by regulating bile acid metabolism.
