Gross weight of parked passenger car must be accurately determined when designing a mechanical parking garage. In this study, gross weight of the passenger car was determined. First, 6689 groups of curb weight and sales volume for passenger cars in the Chinese market from 2009 to 2020 were collected. Then, the collected data were fitted with appropriate probability distributions. The recommended separate and combined curb weights of sedan, SUV, and MPV, defined as general vehicles, were obtained via statistics. Finally, recommended gross weights of sedan, SUV, MPV, and general vehicles with an addition of 50 kg to the recommended curb weight were provided. It was found that the curb weight of sedan, SUV, and general vehicles obeys the lognormal distribution, while that of MPV obeys the mixed t Location-Scale distribution. The sales volume has an influence on the gross weight. When sales volume is considered, the gross weights of sedan, SUV, MPV, and general vehicles are 1750 kg, 2000 kg, 2300 kg, and 1900 kg, respectively. If the sales volume is not considered, the gross weight are 1850 kg, 2150 kg, 2500 kg, and 2050 kg, respectively. The proposed passenger car gross weight can guide the design of parking garage.
