We analyzed the results of theoretical and experimental research on the interaction of an electromagnetic field with electron and positron states arising in quasi-zero-dimensional metal and semiconductor nanosystems. As shown, the oscillator strengths and dipole moments for the transitions involving one-particle electron and positron in quasi-zero-dimensional nanosystems attain gigantic values, substantially exceeding the corresponding typical values for bulk materials. As revealed within the scope of the dipole approximation, the giant optical absorption cross sections in the quasi-zero-dimensional nanosystems provide a possibility to use these nanosystems as new efficient absorbing materials.
