Application of flow rate units and kieselguhr permeability for the calculation of beer filterability.
Abstract
The EBC analytics uses the permeability and filtration rate values to characterize powdered filter aids. The filtration rate at measurement temperature can also be used to describe beer filterability, for the calculation of permeability the beer viscosity is important to know. These filtration parameters can be obtained by measuring of constant or variable filter cake resistance during kieselguhr dosage. A gradual deposition of filter bed is used for so-called "Raible's method". The article reports filtration rates as well as permeability calculations for both measuring methods and concerns the use of these methods for the flow rate measurements of powered filter aids and beer filterability, too.
