Staphylococcus aureus is one of the most important foodborne pathogens and its pathogenicity is related to the production of staphyloccocal enterotoxins (SEs). The use of antibiotics in veterinary practices, could determine the selection of antibiotic-resistant clones of S. aureus, including methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA). In this note are reported the results of the characterization of S. aureus isolates from milk and cheeses produced in Apulia Region (Sauthern Italy).
