In this paper we present the paleographic transcription of the questionnaire for the West Indies ordered by the Crown in 1604, and the answers given in 1608 in the colonial city Nuestra Señora de la Talavera (1556/7-1609) which belonged to the Gobernación del Tucumán at that time. The original document is preserved in the Archivo y Biblioteca Nacionales de Bolivia (ABNB) and it was fully transcribed. It consists of a list of 355 questions, which are answered by a general description, in charge of the lieutenant governor, and by individual statements from “vecinos”, “moradores” and “residentes”. The particularity of this source, in addition to the exhaustive information provided, resides in the fact that it was written a year before the moving of the population of the city to a new settlement. Therefore, this document presents a detailed picture of a conjunctural moment in the history of Nuestra Señora de la Talavera in a scenario of changes and social, political and spatial reorganization before its imminent relocation and new foundation.
