Although their water regime was studied only for a specialsoil, the Dark Magnesium Clay, it is possible that the predominantoccurrence of Chloris barbata on flatland habitats is related to periodicseasonal inundations. Under such conditions Heteropogon contortus maybe less competitive. The periodic seasonal inundations may explain whyChloris barbata and Dichanthium aristatum were dominant on the flatlandand never on the hillsides, where Heteropogon contortus was dominantinstead with occasional plants of Chloris barbata.
