Established in 1960 and re-established after the Cultural Revolution in 1978, the Shanghai Open University operates to train workers in this great capital. However, China's rising standard of living and significant urbanization invite to redefine the city's space. To what extent do urban transitions impact the distance education system that serves it ? This article proposes an analysis of Shanghai Open University evolution in light of the theories on education’s industrialization, and by analyzing a corpus of discourses.
